18 and over, without exception
It is against the law in Wales to offer sunbed use to anyone under 18, and it is against ours too. We will ask for ID if we are not certain, and we will refuse the session politely if we cannot be satisfied. There are no exceptions for parental consent.
Health information for sunbed users
Sunbed use can damage your skin and eyesight and increase your risk of suffering from skin cancer.
Welsh regulations prescribe the health information that commercial sunbed businesses must provide and display. This website reproduces that prescribed wording; the salon must also display the required notice on its premises.
Age and supervision
- Commercial sunbed use is strictly 18 and over. The salon must verify that every user is at least 18.
- A competent supervisor must be present on the premises whenever a customer is seeking to use or is using a sunbed.
- The supervisor must assist the customer to assess their skin type, provide guidance taking account of relevant skin or medical conditions, advise on safe operation, provide the prescribed health information and ensure protective eyewear is made available and used as far as reasonably practicable.
Protective eyewear
Appropriate protective eyewear must be made available for every sunbed visit, or the customer must have suitable eyewear with them. The operator must take reasonably practicable steps to ensure it is worn. Reusable eyewear must be appropriately sanitised before it is used again.
Before requesting a session
Tell the supervisor about any skin condition or relevant medical condition, and any medication or other information they need to consider when giving guidance. If you are unsure what is appropriate for you, seek advice from your GP or pharmacist before using a sunbed.
